Huntington's Disease Awareness Month

For the 2022 Huntington's disease awareness month, we aimed to highlight the impact that Huntington’s disease has on mental health with the campaign #HuntingtonsInMind. The campaign raised awareness about the mental health impact that a diagnosis of Huntington’s disease has on individuals and their families.

We asked people from the Huntington’s community if they would like to share their stories, thank you to everyone who has contributed.

This is your story...

Stories from the community

We reached out to the Huntington's community to create three powerful films, each person and family have their own story to tell about how Huntington's has impacted their lives.

Alison bravely shares her story about life caring for her husband, Bert and daughter Elise.

David who is gene-positive and his wife, Debbie talk about navigating David's mental symptoms.

Charlie talks about the impact of Huntington's in her family and the feelings around testing negative.

Support from our patron

The month was launched by our patron, actor George Rainsford who spoke about the campaign on the ITV programme Loose Women and on BBC Morning Live. George Rainsford is a passionate supporter who featured in a storyline on the TV programme Casualty about Huntington’s disease. Throughout the month, George spoke about Huntington's disease awareness and mental health.

How can you get involved?

Our campaign for better mental health support for people affected by Huntington's doesn't stop here. We will be asking for more formalised and comprehensive mental health support to be made available. Since launching we have been meeting with professionals to create a template for a letter addressed to your local MP. The aim is to encourage your MP to sign the current Early Day Motion in parliament as well as to address the lack of support for mental health.
