This free event is for families affected by Huntington’s to meet, share experiences, and access information and support.


About the event:

The day will include:

  • 10:00am - 10:15am - Welcome - Opening remarks and overview of the day
  • 10:15am - 10:30am - Growing up in a family with Huntington’s disease - A personal insight into what it’s like to grow up in a family affected by the disease, exploring the challenges and how resilience and support can make a difference
  • 10:30am - 11:00am - Personal experience living with Huntington’s disease - Ambassador Jenny McArthur will share her personal experience of living with the disease, sharing the impact it’s had, the challenges, maintaining independence and wellbeing, and engaging with the community.
  • 11:00am - 11:30am - The carer’s perspective - Trustee Steve Duckett will discuss the realities of caring for a loved one with Huntington’s disease, including practical challenges, emotional wellbeing, sources of support, and lessons learned. 
  • 11:30am - 11:45am - Comfort break
  • 11:45am - 12:30pm - Enhancing quality of life in the later stages - Staff from the Winscombe care home will share their experiences of caring for those with late stage Huntington’s, focusing on person-centred care, maintaining dignity, meaningful activities, family involvement, and approaches that can help.
  • 12:30pm - 1:30pm - Lunch
  • 1:30pm - 2:00pm - Branch AGM - Annual review of branch activities, finances, and upcoming plans
  • 2:00pm - 3:00pm - Activity session - A chance for everyone to take part in a shared activity designed to encourage connection, enjoyment, and wellbeing. 
  • 3:00pm - 3:30pm - Raffle draw and close - Enjoy refreshments and catch up with friends.

Eve is one of our Specialist Huntington’s Disease Advisers, and covers Dorset, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight. She will be available on the day to share her knowledge of supporting people living with the disease.
