We are delighted to have two new trustees joining our executive council
Dr Akshay Nair
Dr Akshay Nair is a consultant neuropsychiatrist working in the Huntington’s disease service at St George’s Hospital in Southwest London. He studied medicine at Oxford University, trained in psychiatry on the Maudsley programme, and went on to complete a PhD in Huntington’s disease research with Professor Sarah Tabrizi at UCL.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Nair has been closely involved with the Huntington’s Disease Association. He has spoken at training events, written guidance for professionals, and attended charity events in Parliament. Most recently, he worked with the Huntington’s Disease Association to help change NHS England guidance, ensuring people with Huntington’s are not unfairly excluded from local mental health services.
Dr Nair also co-chairs the UK and Ireland Huntington’s Network, helping to bring researchers and clinicians together at its annual national meeting. He is passionate about improving care for people with Huntington’s, with a focus on access to specialist services, mental health and social support.
Dal Padda
Dal has worked as a dedicated paediatric nurse for over 18 years, and this experience has given her a strong desire for compassion and advocacy. For the latter part of her nursing career, she worked with teenagers with life-limiting inherited metabolic conditions.
Her journey with Huntington’s started a decade ago after her son was diagnosed, who she cared for, until he lost his battle with the disease. This greatly shaped her understanding of the condition and its impact on families. For the past few years, Dal has volunteered to support other Huntington’s disease carers through peer support. This work has furthered her commitment to raising awareness and improving the lives of those living with Huntington’s.
Dal remains passionate about continuing to support the Huntington’s Disease Association and believes her lived experience, combined with her nursing experience, can be of great value to the board.
Thank you to both Dal and Akshay for volunteering your time to work with our board of trustees and help to shape the future of the charity and the support for the Huntington's community.
