Join #TeamHDA and help us cover 8000km this August.

HDBike is our virtual summer challenge, running throughout August. For it, we ask the Huntington’s community to get on their bikes and cycle, with each pedal helping to raise vital awareness and funds for all those affected by Huntington’s disease in England and Wales.

Why should I get involved?

As a charity, we rely on donations so we can continue to support more people affected by Huntington's.

Just £50 raised during HDBike can help provide:

  • One hour of telephone support from our Specialist Huntington’s Disease Advisory Service for someone at crisis point.
  • Five interactive booklets to help young children to learn about and understand the effects of Huntington's disease.

Plus, when you raise £50, you’ll receive a free Huntington's Disease Association water bottle — and every mile brings you closer to earning our Eco medal!

A service user said:

Having the support of the charity was a lifeline for me. It made me feel less alone and less scared. I have had the opportunity to mix with other people in the Huntington's disease community, and I have been able to attend webinars that are educational about things that feel overwhelming like testing and life insurance. As a whole I feel much happier being in contact with the charity.

How can I get involved?

The magic of HDBike is that it’s easy to get involved, no matter your lifestyle:

  • Families – Make HDBike a summer holiday game! Who can ride the furthest?
  • Commuters – Ditch the car and bike to work. Don’t own one? Check if your workplace offers a cycle-to-work scheme.
  • Gym-goers – Use your weekly spin class or the gym’s exercise bikes to clock your kilometres.

We place the number 8000 at the centre of this challenge, as this represents the estimated 8000 people in England and Wales living with Huntington’s disease, but how you ride is up to you. For example, you can:

  • Organise your own sponsored cycle.
  • Challenge yourself to cycle 8000km over the month.
  • Complete your favourite local cycle path, or see if you can discover 8000 new streets.

Guidelines for #HDBike

  • We encourage each person taking part to commit to raising £50 for the Huntington’s Disease Association.
  • Track your activities using your phone, smart watch or other device. If you have a Strava account, you can link it to your fundraising page to keep your friends and family up to date on your progress.
  • Stay safe and let people know your location at all times.

Make your cycling count and #GetOnYourBike4HD.
