Dear the last generation
Thank you for leaving money for the Huntington's Disease Association in your Will.
Because of the funds you left
I was supported by the Specialist Huntington's Disease Advisory Service. A local adviser met with me and my family and I was able to understand the full impact that Huntington's disease would have on my family. Without this support, I honestly don’t know how I’d have coped with the everyday struggles. They helped me when I really needed them most, I know I can rely on them to help me in any situation we struggle with.
Because of the funds you left
I was supported through my husband’s testing journey which helped us decide what decision was best for him and our family. They helped guide us into what additional support was available, both financially and in our own home. They provided the links required for additional support services such as occupational therapy, speech and language, and hospice care support to create my husband's care package and future planning.
Because of the funds you left
The charity was able to train the care company and their staff that support my husband's care needs in our own home when I’m unable to be there.
Because of the funds you left
I have been able to meet new people in the Huntington's community through a local support group, where I have met friends who really care. Ones who truly understand what I’m going through when the days are feeling too hard to bear. I have also been guided to become a part of an amazing group of individuals who all campaign for the Huntington's Disease Association as Ambassadors.
Because of the funds you left
I was able to use the Youth Engagement Service. They helped me to help explain to my children about the disease and their 50:50 risk. They have given them opportunities to meet other young people who live with Huntington's in their home, and they have been able to connect with others so they never feel alone. They have created days out and residential trips so they get a much needed break from home. They have given my children a safe space and the right resources to overcome the worries and stresses that come with being young carers, often in their school setting. The youth engagement service has been able to train the teachers who support my children, so they, too, understand how Huntington's impacts our lives.
This is why I will be writing my Will as part of free Wills month this March.
Leave a gift in your Will
