Ten year old Jessica completed the York Kids Triathlon to raise money to support her grandpa.

At just ten years old, Jessica wanted to take part in a fundraiser to support her grandpa who is currently impacted by Huntington's disease. She decided to challenge herself by signing up for a kid's triathlon alongside her sister Isobel who completed a mini version.

Just get out there and do it. You are helping more people than you could ever know.

Jessica likes keeping active and enjoys running, swimming and cycling. The triathlon is a combination of these things so was a great idea for her first fundraiser. She was also able to do it alongside two of her friends.

To train for the event, Jessica went on family bike rides as well as swimming and running every week. She said that having goals helps when trying to keep active. We asked Jessica if she felt supported by the charity in her fundraiser and she responded:

We received emails encouraging us and also some promotional material. We also loved getting our wooden eco fundraiser medals after the event as a great reminder.

The kid's triathlon consisted of a 50-meter pool swim, a 3km tarmac bike and a 1500-meter grass run. Her younger sister Isobel who was just six at the time completed a mini version of the challenge with an 18-meter swim, a 1km tarmac bike and a 500-meter grass run. Jessica said it was a fun but challenging event.

We asked Jessica what she liked about fundraising and why taking part was important to her, Jessica said:

Fundraising can help people less fortunate than yourself and it gives you a nice feeling when you do it. It can also give you a push to do well in the event knowing that people are sponsoring you. Fundraising also means that if I ever need help perhaps someone will help me too.

Thank you to Jessica for sharing her story with us and also for taking part in the kid's triathlon and raising lots of money that will help support others affected by Huntington's disease. We hope that Jessica and Isobel's story helps to inspire people of all ages to get involved in fundraising.
