The Inspire Neurocare residents, staff, and families took part in #HDHike.
A casual discussion between Maxine Farr, a Physiotherapist, and Inspire Neurocare resident Mark, took place about how they should celebrate Huntington's Disease Awareness Month. This discussion led to an attendance of 36 people, a mix of residents, staff, and families. Everyone joined together to embark on #HDHike around St. Johns, Worcester, to raise awareness and funds for Huntington's disease. Maxine said:
The Huntington's Disease Association is close to Mark's heart, they do phenomenal work providing care and support to those living with Huntington's disease.
Residents were welcomed over the finish line with cheers. Mark was first over the line, which was a double achievement for him after suggesting such a successful and well-attended fundraiser. They all enjoyed a well-deserved spread of food served by their in house chefs. Staff, residents and families then spent time together reminiscing about their #HDHike. Maxine shares what she took away from the day:
As staff, we seldom get to interact on a social level with our residents, their families and colleagues all together. That was a highlight of the day for me, building those relationships across the boundaries of our usual roles. This day was a testament and reminder of the power of coming together and building relationships. We are definitely stronger together.
Inspire Neurocare is a neurorehabilitation service providing specialist complex care in Worcester and is home to residents with Huntington's disease.
We, at the Huntington's Disease Association are grateful to the Inspire Neurocare team for supporting the Huntington's residents in organising this fundraiser and awareness day.
