This course is aimed at care staff working with people with Huntington's disease who would like to gain a deeper knowledge of Huntington's disease and develop their practice.
Learning objectives:
This course will help learners to:
- Gain a deeper understanding of the complex nature of Huntington's disease
- Feel more confident managing the challenges of supporting someone with Huntington's disease
- Be able to reflect on and strengthen your own practice
What does the course entail?
This course has three parts:
- Participants undertake an online study module that takes them through an overview of Huntington’s, looking at genetics, symptoms and ways to support. At the end of this module, there is a short assessment. This module takes about 1.5 hours to complete.
- A follow-up video call with Advisers from the Huntington's Disease Association takes place to reinforce what has been learnt in the online module. The call will facilitate discussion and give the opportunity for questions. At the end of the call, participants are set a reflective task to relate what has been learnt to their own experiences of working with people with Huntington's disease. This session lasts 1.5 hours.
- A second follow-up video call takes place. In this session, we apply the knowledge learned about Huntington’s to a variety of scenarios. We discuss the outcomes from the reflective task and look at ways in which to enhance our practice when supporting people who have Huntington’s disease. This session lasts 1.5 hours.
We run this course with small groups of care staff to promote discussion and full participation.
To complete the course all participants must successfully complete the self-directed online study module and attend both follow-up video calls.
All participants will receive a certificate on completion.
How much does it cost?
The charge is £100 per person.
