Gobble gobble – The story of a turkey calendar for Huntington’s disease
Supporter and KellyBronze turkey breeder, Susan Gorst of Moorgate Farm in Northamptonshire is selling turkey calendars to raise money for the Huntington's Disease Association. The calendars feature local artist’s drawings of the turkeys on her farm! Below, Sue explains what inspired her to support our work:
"In 1999 my husband and I had been rearing calves for four years; one Christmas my husband decided he was not happy with the turkey I was buying for our Christmas dinner and believed we could provide something better for ourselves and friends alike! We approached KellyBronze to ask if we could become one of their farmers.
Five years later in 2004, my husband was diagnosed with Huntington's disease. The shock hit us hard as we had already experienced coping with my father-in-law and knew that a difficult road lay ahead - all I can say is thank goodness I had the turkeys! Living with Huntington’s disease means having to be open to making changes to your lives, learning to take one day at a time. Living with Huntington's disease can be very challenging for all members of the family; whether other members have been diagnosed with Huntington’s disease or not it is still a big part of family life.
I wanted to celebrate 20 years of rearing our turkeys and support the work of the Huntington's Disease Association, so, along with a local artist I came up with the idea of a calendar featuring our turkeys! All profits from the sale of this calendar will go to the Huntington’s Disease Association".
Our thanks to Sue for developing such a beautiful calendar. To order yours before they get gobbled up please visit the Moorgate Farm website.
