Mammoth marathon man Mark did it!

A year ago a young man in Bristol made a promise to his Nan to run from Bristol to Wembley Stadium over a six-day period in 2011. That young man’s name is Mark Bywater, grandson of Doris & Roy Fletcher members of Bristol Branch of HDA.
Doris, Mark’s Nan who has HD has been his inspiration since decided to take on this challenge, which he completed on Saturday 7th May after leaving Bristol City FC Ashton Gate Ground on Monday 2nd May. A group of friends and supports from the Bristol Branch gathered to send him off on his way as he faced the 150 miles ahead of him. Mark, who lives with his wife Sara in Bristol, said: “I really hope my running will help pay for further investigation and trials in the hope that one day we can stop this horrible illness destroying any more lives. I’m looking forward to it and I’m looking forward to raising money, that’s the main thing. If I could get £5,000 I would be over the moon. The 26-year-old last year had the test for HD the results of which came back clear and we are delighted to report that Sara and Mark are excitedly expecting the arrival of their first child in late May.
A group from Bristol travelled up to Wembley to cheer him home and then went on to Windsor for a celebratory drink. Heather Thomas, Bristol Branch Chair expressed everyone’s joy at Mark completing his run by saying “How proud she and all in Bristol were of Mark and wished him much happiness with his new adventure into fatherhood and looked forward to supporting him in his next challenge”.
