Training for Professionals who are Involved in the Care of People With Huntington’s Disease
Length of training
1-4 hours (depending on topics chosen)
Location
In-house at your venue
We arrange a suitable day and time with you and deliver the training solely for your staff at your organisation’s venue.
Topics which can be covered
- Overview of HD — This gives a general overview including what HD is, basic genetics and symptoms of HD
- Behaviour — An interactive session looking at why we see difficult behaviour in HD and approaches to solving behaviour challenges
- Cognition — Explores the symptoms of cognitive impairment and difficulties in planning, sequencing, multi-tasking and executive functioning
Other topics are available depending on your specific requirements (e.g. eating and swallowing, communication, palliative care needs). Please contact your local Regional Care Adviser to discuss your needs.
Aims and learning outcomes
- To increase your knowledge and understanding of Huntington’s disease
- To better understand the needs of people living with and caring for people with Huntington’s disease
- To identify challenges associated with the symptoms of Huntington’s disease
- To consider the resources available, including the role of the Huntington’s Disease Association to improve the quality of life of people with Huntington’s disease and their carers
Cost
£25 per hour
This is the total cost to your organisation, not per person. This includes supporting literature for each participant where appropriate.
Other information
The course consists of direct teaching, and where appropriate DVDs and interactive workshops with case studies. Each participant will receive a certificate of attendance.
