June 2009
The Huntington's Disease Association of England and Wales (HDA) is proud to announce their new Patrons; Mr Tony Hadley and Mr Shane Richie.
Tony was lead singer of the iconic 1980's band Spandau Ballet, after which he enjoyed a successful solo career. Spandau Ballet has recently re-formed and he will be touring Europe during the autumn of 2009. Shane is an actor, singer and comedian and is acclaimed for his portrayal of Alfie Moon in the BBC soap opera, Eastenders and most recently as Archie Daley in Channel 5's Minder.
Tony Hadley and Shane Richie were approached by the HDA regarding their patronage and were pleased to be offered this opportunity. Huntington's disease is close to both Tony's and Shane's hearts and they are looking forward to supporting their work.

The HDA are delighted to be working with Tony and Shane in raising awareness of this rare but devastating illness which affects around 6,000 to 10,000 people in the UK.
Bill Crowder, Deputy Head of Care Services at the HDA comments, "When I made contact with Tony and Shane, they were both delighted to be asked to become Patrons of the charity and both are happy to help in any way they can. We are really excited to have them as our Patrons and hope that their status will help to promote awareness of this devastating neurological illness, and raise the profile of the service we provide."
The HDA are holding a press conference at lunchtime on Tuesday 9th June in London to celebrate the new UK and Ireland Huntington's Alliance, in which the four Huntington's Disease Associations covering the UK and Ireland are coming together for the first time to raise awareness of the disease. The HDA are delighted that Tony Hadley and Shane Richie will make their first appearance as their Patrons at this event.
