House of Commons reception for the HDA
November 2008
Mr Speaker, the Right Honourable Michael Martin MP recently hosted a Reception for the Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA) on the evening of 14th October 2008 in his rooms at the House of Commons.
The reception was a small exclusive event, to which a small number of Primary Care Trusts, Commissioners, MPs, Charitable Trusts and Foundations were invited.
The Priory Group kindly supported the event and the HDA worked in partnership with them to organise the evening.

Over drinks and canapés, the Right Honourable Michael Martin MP opened the evening by welcoming everyone to his rooms at the Palace of Westminster, and talked briefly about the history of the House of Commons and his role as Mr Speaker.
Dr Oliver Quarrell, Vice Chairman of the HDA, was pleased to welcome our guests to the event and talked about the work of the Huntington’s Disease Association, the service provided by our Regional Care Advisers and the importance of their role in supporting individuals and families who are affected by the disease.
Dr Quarrell stressed the importance of the continuation and, where possible, the expansion of the Regional Care Advisory service, and the funding which is inevitably required in order for the service to be maintained.
Following the presentations by Mr Speaker and Dr Quarrell, the opportunity for networking continued and the intimacy of the relatively small gathering enabled everyone to speak with staff from The Priory and from the HDA, to gain a better understanding of the specialist care that is required for people with Huntington’s disease.
The evening was a huge success and we would like to sincerely thank The Priory for their contribution in enabling the evening to take place, and to Mr Speaker for hosting this prestigious event, not forgetting his attentive staff who were always on hand to ensure the evening ran smoothly.
Our team of Fundraisers at the HDA are now following up the important links that were made at the event, so that we continue to work closely with our funders, ensuring the future of our service.
Cath Stanley
Head of Care Services
