Raise funds with AffinityButton.com

How you can help us to raise funds

Do you have a computer, with access to the internet (preferably Broadband)?
Do you have a few minutes of spare time a day?
Would you like to raise funds for the HDA at no cost to yourself?

If the answer the above is YES! then here is how you can help (and don’t worry, you need very little knowledge of computers!) Mr Malcolm Roach, who’s wife has HD, has used his IT company to establish an innovative way for charities to benefit from a website named Affinity Button.com.’

What is Affinity Button.com?
Affinity Button.com is an online shopping centre offering a worldwide selection of products and services. You access these products through an Affinity button.

What is an Affinity Button?
An Affinity ButtonTM is an icon (a little button) which you install on your computer which you click on to enter the Affinity Button.com website.

How does it work?
Every time you use the website to visit a company who has paid to advertise on the site (e.g. a car rental company or a florist), a 1p donation is made to the charity of your choice - the HDA or indeed any other charity you choose. You can click on any or all of the companies once each day, so within a few minutes can have generated a 50p+ donation, depending on how many clicks you make.

What do I have to do?
A step by step guide to downloading an Affinity Button to your PC desktop (note, at present this will not work on a Mac)

Step 1
Open your internet connection as usual

Step 2
In the “address” box, type in “http://www.affinitybutton.com"

Step 3
Immediately below the Affinity Button.com picture you will see a line of options which reads:

Home
Buttonholder Registration
Vendor Registration
Beneficiary Registration
User Login
About us
Contact us

With your mouse, left click on Buttonholder Registration. A screen will appear with the words Buttonholder Application immediately below the options bar.

Step 4
Complete your details in the spaces indicated. This is where you need your e-mail address! You only need to complete the sections where a red * sign appears, and can ignore others.

Step 5
Click with your mouse on the “Next” box and this will take you to the next screen, which will read “Buttonholder Application” and underneath two options: “All Beneficiary” and “Beneficiary in Groups” with a small circle on the left hand side of each. Below these will be a window in which the words “Lucky Dip” will be displayed. Click with your mouse on the downward arrow located on the right of the words Lucky Dip, and this will drop down a list of all charities who are registered as Beneficiaries of the Affinity Button website. Amongst these you will find the Huntingdon Disease Association - click with your mouse on the name of the Association and this will then change the “Lucky Dip” display to the HDA. (Note:This means that you are selecting HDA as your Beneficiary and that all activity through your Affinity Button will be automatically logged and credited to HDA - you can of course nominate a different charity).

Step 6
Click on the “Next” button - you should get a message which starts “Thank you for your application to register as an Affinity Button buttonholder”. This screen will also tell you your account ID and Your Password. Print a copy of this page as you need this information for the next step and in the future to access your account information. (Note: you can change your password later by clicking on the “Change Password” option displayed)

Step 7
Click with your mouse on “User Login”. This will take you to a screen with the heading “Login”. One box reads “Select your User Group”. With your mouse click on the downward arrow which will give you a choice of 3 user types (Buttonholder, Vendor and Beneficiary) - click with your mouse on Buttonholder, and then type in the User ID and Password issued to you at Step 6. Make sure you type in exactly the details as issued. Then click with your mouse on the “Login” tab just below the Password. This will bring up a new screen asking you to update your details. On this new screen there is a new options bar which gives you the following options:

Financial Report
Update Account Details
Change Password
Download Affinity Button
Start Shop

Step 8
Click with your mouse on the “Download Affinity Button” option at the top of the screen. A new screen appears which reads “In order to secure an Affinity Button, please follow the appropriate steps detailed below”

Step 9
Click on the Affinity Button icon displayed immediately above the words on the screen: “1. Click the Icon above and save to C:\”. This will bring up an insert screen, giving you 3 or 4 options: Open Save Cancel (possibly also: More Info) Click with your mouse on the “Save” tab, and this will bring up a further inset screen headed “Save as”. At the top of this inset screen you will see the words “save in” with a small downward arrow on the right of a window. Click on this downward arrow and it will drop down a menu of various options. Make sure you select the option which is marked or displayed as your C:\ drive. (Note: this can vary from computer to computer but is often called “Local C Drive” or possibly something like “60GbHddC:”). Click with your mouse on this C Drive option and this will then appear in the top window next to “save in”. Click again with your mouse on the “Save” button at the right hand bottom of the inset screen. Clicking on the “Save” button will return you to the Step 8 screen.

Step 10
Look for the words on this screen which read: “2. Click Here to download the Affinity Button to your desktop” and click with your mouse on the words “Click Here” This will again produce an insert screen giving you the options: Open Save Cancel (possibly also More Info). Left click with your mouse on the “Save” button, which will bring up the screen headed “Save as” with the “save in” option at the top of the screen. With your mouse click on the downward arrow in the window to the right of the “save in” which will again bring down a number of options, one of which will be “Desktop”. Click on “Desktop”. Click on the “Save” button. This will save your Affinity Button to your desktop, and you will be returned to the screen at Step 8. You have completed all you need to do. Exit from the website, and check to see if the Affinity Button is displayed on the desk top as it should be. If it is, please check the direct link by double left clicking with your mouse on the Affinity Button, which should take you direct to the website.

If you have any problems, email through the “Contact Us” option on the website and someone will help.

If all the HDA supporters could do this for us most days, we could raise in excess of £20,000 a year! So please - give it a go. Have a look at the website (HYPERLINK “http://www.affinitybutton.com” for more information, and GET CLICKING!
